Apex Legends: "We're banning Linux because cheaters use it"
Marvel Rivals: Accidentally bans Linux players, apologizes on the public Discord, says they're going to rescind bans and deal with the problem
@BrodieOnLinux sadly, cheat-free gaming can only achieved on a spyware os
@maze If only that was actually true
@BrodieOnLinux to guarantee legit gameplay, ideally the system would need to be in full control of the game (or their trusted third party) and the gamer would just walk up to the computer and use the controls
@maze @BrodieOnLinux so, arcade style machines
@fogti exactly, from now on, you can only play by going to Apex Arcade center and a security guard watching over your shoulder
@BrodieOnLinux @maze cloud gaming is still effectively software on the user side, tho. Thus preventing cheating is impossible.
@fogti @BrodieOnLinux @maze they could add DRM and telemetry to gaming controllers to make sure a human is always the one controlling the inputs.
@BrodieOnLinux @maze @fogti but what about hardware cheats like the Wooting Keyboard drama that happened in the osu! and cs2 communities a while back? Cloud gaming won’t stop that!
